During her time with IMS Health, Ziwen has executed multiple projects involving product reimbursement negotiation strategy and market access excellence. In her latest engagement, she supported and NHFPC on healthcare reform evaluation in China in which she established a holistic assessment framework to guide organization and analysis of select indicators, provided an overview of the progress within the reform’s five priority areas, and produced a set of policy suggestions and priority actions to achieve the reform objectives in China.She also engaged in several projects to evaluate
innovative access strategies and schemes piloted by MNCs in Asia and other regions.

Outside of Office:

Ziwen has worked as a volunteer teacher in Ningxia province for one year and she always cares about the education and health status of teenagers in rural west China. She is also the founder of “This is Public Health” program, which collaborates with University of Hawaii, Manoa to promote Health & Wellbeing in China.


Samuel LIAO

Project highlight:

during the years in IMS, Sam has involved and led multiple projects including new product launch and pricing strategy, growth strategy for inline products, market segmentation, broad market strategy as well as policy shaping and government engagement. He has exposure and deep expertise in multiple therapeutic areas, e.g. Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Oncology, Psychiatric and Ophthalmology, etc. He has helped clients identify growth strategies for the top pharmaceutical product in China, and develop investment plan to maximize its performance. His last project investigated 8 oncology disease from both solid and hematology tumors, assessed and forecasted the market potential for client’s pipeline products to guide the investment priority.

IMS is a big consulting company focusing on healthcare area, it has established strong footprint in China market, and plays as a role of thinking leader for the industry. On the other hand, IMS is a school other than a company, people work and play, learn and share and establish life-long friendship in this place.

Sam is keen in football and basketball, it keeps him feeling the passion of challenging and cooperation, fighting and teamwork for all the time.

Project highlight: New indication launch project

In the project, we helped our client develop an overall launch framework and roadmap for one of its key product’s new indication. We conducted physician interviews and quantitative research to assess market landscape, identify high-potential hospitals and design market access roadmap. Through the research and analysis, we delivered an executable launch strategy and financial impact analysis, which was well accepted by our client.

Three months have passed and I keep feeling the innate passion for what I have been involved. IMS health is a fantastic group as it helps its colleagues to gain a deep and truly insights into pharma industry, and provides the opportunity to seek and recommend practical solutions for challenging problem our client met. Outside of the office: billiards

Playing billiards and other snooker game is one of my weekly recreations. It allows me to keep challenging myself and helps me sharpen my mind by doing mental mathematical estimates and calculations.

Project highlight: A project on optimization of access strategy for oncology drugs

In this project, we helped our client to maximize access opportunities by understanding of best industry practices in gaining local reimbursement. We leveraged existing resources and secondary research outcomes to identify current reimbursement landscape, and develop a database of innovative access models for oncology drugs. By one-on-one interviews with industry experts, we developed further understanding of current industry best practices regarding local negotiation and the relevant key success factors. Finally, we synthesized key findings and delivered recommendations on optimization of local negotiation strategies.

Why I enjoy IMS Health: Evidence-based consulting

Consulting means provision of professional advice to clients, and for me, the word “professional” represents rigorous logic with solid evidence. Healthcare industry is directly related to human life, thus relying more on evidence-based decision. And in IMS health, I can enjoy developing professional recommendations to clients based on the solid evidence from the strong database and extensive industry expertise, which makes me more confident, and inspires more logical and creative thinking.

Outside of the office: Fan of live concert

In my perspective, live concert is far more attracting than listening to music tracks, as I can participate in the performance with the singer. I really enjoy the atmosphere when all the audience waves the light together. I believe this is the most wonderful team work, as strangers play perfectly together. I feel full of energy every time I have joined such a moving live concert.

In one project, we helped a local pharmaceutical company to develop a e-business strategy and prioritize products based on their market potential and e-commerce opportunity. We conducted extensive and comprehensive expert interviews to assess the policy environment, identify business opportunities and challenges, and summarize the current best practices in this emerging industry. In another project, based on our full assessment of the market dynamics, we helped out client develop a complicated pricing model to figure out the best pricing strategy in dealing with the upcoming intensive competition.

Outside of office:

I usually spend my leisure time in playing accordion and going to the symphony concerts. The classical music allows me to find the peace of the mind and inner calm. Besides these quite activities, I also enjoy playing volleyballs and badmintons with my friends to release the full energy and break my physical and mental limits.

In my first project, we helped a global leading pharmaceutical company to prioritize its pipeline products based on their market potential; recommendations were made with convincing evidence based on extensive and comprehensive market research. In another project, I evaluated the patients’ drug accessibility across G20 countries, providing me an overview of the global market access situation and an opportunity to work closely with colleagues across global offices. In my latest project, we helped a $1 billion drug to decide its optimal launch price in China, giving me a strong sense of accomplishment.

Outside of office:

After work, I eat around and then go to gym, though I skip the step II in most cases. On vacation, anywhere with beach & pool is where I will probably show up, and that’s why I practiced bartending as my backup living skill.


Ruoxi WANG

Project highlight:

During my first few projects at IMS, we helped a number of national leading pharmaceutical companies/investment institutions to comprehensively evaluate and forecast the potential of acquiring other companies/drugs overseas. Projects like these usually involve a large amount of desk research, interviews with experts, data analysis and communication with both our client and the target company, allowing me to take a large responsibility and make my own contribution. Apart from gaining extensive pharmaceutical knowledge, I was also able to get an overview of both the Chinese and global pharmaceutical market, as well as latest policies and their impacts. In my latest project, we composed a comprehensive report on the Chinese pharmaceutical market, during which I enjoyed the data analysis a lot.

Why I enjoy IMS health:

IMSCG is a perfect blend of management consulting and healthcare industry, which can’t be a greater start of my career. The projects here allow me to learn extensively about the industry and enhance both my professional and inter-personal skills. People at IMS come from great backgrounds, and working with smart people is always enjoyable.

Outside of office:

I can enjoy myself at the gym for three hours a day, every day. I began weight-lifting during my first year of university and have fallen in love with body-building since then. I also love travelling and reading. My favorite author at this moment is Jeffery Archer, and his series Clifton Chronicles is strongly recommended.

In my first project of market access, we help a global leading pharmaceutical corporation to develop a new drug launch strategy. There are a few modules to build up a solid and systematic understanding of the disease market: 1) timely tracking of government policy concerning drug registration and medical insurance access, 2) data analysis of countrywide hospitals across five city tiers, and 3) interviewing patients and physicians to identify target consumer groups. Combining the findings and insights from key modules, we will deliver proper launch strategy with executable physician/patient engagement plans and market access roadmap to our client.

Outside of office:

After work, I enjoy many sorts of sports including jogging, badminton and tennis. On weekends, reading books, watching films or a short trip to the mountains always relaxes me. By the way, sometimes I have good appetite for horrible films.

During the time with IMS, I have executed multiple global projects to evaluate market access strategies. In Pfizer project, I collaborate with US team to execute consumer journey for China market, providing insights according to different type of buyers; In Guiyang strategy project, our team provided a comprehensive business plan including detailed financial model for next ten years. Except for market estimation, a strategy for future development and added-value for different business models are provided to our client.

Why I enjoy IMS health:

As a consulting firm dedicating to healthcare industry, IMS becomes a larger service provider not only to pharma industries but also to device companies. During six months, I have a better knowledge of both healthcare policies and pharma industry. IMS keeps me feeling excited and curious to daily work.

Outside of office:

Having been to 36 countries and hundreds cities, I never stop my steps to new areas. I like travelling when I have holidays, which allows me meeting new people, experience different culture and stay curious about the world.
